In the novel great expectations pip has many realizations over the course of his life. He also feels the ramifications of his realizations in big ways throughout the novel. One of the things that Pip get caught up in is his desire for Estella. The whole book he gets so focused on thinking how he can attract he loses the chance to be with her. He tries to be a gentleman throughout the novel for Estella but doesn't realize that she has moved on with her life and forgotten about Pip. He realizes this and is devastated that he wasted his life for something he will never have and because he will never get Estella no matter how hard he tries. Estella on the other hand focuses on something other than Pip and her whole life thinks that her and miss Havisham have a great relationship. But what Estella doesn't realize is that Miss Havisham is using Estella to satisfy her hatred for men because of what happend to her. When Estella realizes this she is also devastated along with Pip in the sence that they both spent most of their lives for something that will never happen or that wasnt true
