Antonio and Bassanio odd relationship, in the novel it is clear that Bassanio clearly is the dominant on in their relationship. Bassanio seems to be a kind likeable character and Antonio a character that is desperate for Bassanio's acceptance. Antonio constantly offers Bassanio money and even tells Bassanio of "Neither have i money nor commodity To raise a present sum. Therefore go forth: Try what my creditcan do in Venice do; That shall be racked even to the uttermost To furnish thee to belmont to fair Portia."(p. 19 l. 185-189) It is clear that there is something more between them, but mostly instigated by Bassanio. Shackspeare makes it obvious that something is there but doesnt make it clear on what kind of relationship it is. At certain times it almost looks as though Antonio may have sexual feeling for Bassonio. Or perhaps Antonio feels that he is somewhat of a father figure to Bassanio and needs to help him out. It isnt clear yet but there is something between them that is more than just a friendship.
